On 19 November the Chapingo Autonomous University (UACH) in Texcoco, Mexico invited 263 artists from 36 countries to take part in the First Biannual International Contemporary Art Competition Chapingo 2008. Art with roots in the earth.The jury was formed by the Mexican photographer Francisco Mata Rosas, the art historian Blanca Garduño Pulido, the art critic Argelia Castillo, the Cuban art critic Nadia Chaviano Rodriguez and the Argentinean art critic Ricardo César Lescano.
Rafael Roa was unanimously awarded the video art prize for his work Ikar.
