The ending of the photographer’ look is coming to society. Some of the most important newspapers have laid off photographer’s that have been taking pictures for many years, The Chicago Sun Times did this a few weeks ago.
The 2 finger men with a smart phone are the solution for getting low cost photographs in corporate newspapers. It does not matter if the quality is really bad, low cost is the new religion. They don’t want photographers that can show people the political situation with a critical view.
We have enjoyed the vision of great photo journalists for many years. The Magnum agency has shown people their view of the world since the Spanish civil war until today. This is a small example of all the photographers’ documentaries and photo journalists that have shown us the history of the world since XIX century.
They only want people that push a button on their smart phone, monkeys without criteria for selecting the reality and share it with everybody. In fact, they want free photos, without any reproduction rights.
Today newspapers do not give information they only show the opinion that the political powers want the citizens to see. Now newspapers can be substituted by independent journalists and photographers that share the information live in their sites and social nets. The photography world is changing at the same rate that the liberal economy is destroying the civil rights of people.
Old Europe has gone back a hundred years, losing some of the most important social rights. For this reason photographers are more important right now, to be able to show to people the injustices that the economic and political powers are inflicting upon citizens. Lewis Hine showed us childhood slavery in the first years of the last century.
Society needs today the critical view of photographers
